"Tow Truck In A Box" Worth Considering for Baja Road Trips


I saw an ad on TV last night for the "Tow Truck in a Box" and wished we had a set of these ribbed aluminum plates when we camped our way down the Baja in our VW van last year.

On two annoying occasions we had to dig our tires out of deep sand.

The first was in an RV park just north of Playa Santispac in what we thought was a parking lot. Fortunately, there was some old boards nearby that we could wedge under the tires.

But it still took 45 minutes, a lot of dust, and some damage to our relationship before we finally made it out.  continue reading... »

Top 5 Packing Mistakes on Road Trip to Mexico & Central America

1. We didn't bring our Macbook laptop

-We ended up spending a lot of money and a lot of time in dreary internet cafes as we worked on our travel blog. If we had our lap top, we could have done our writing at our often scenically located campsites. The Macbook in particular would have been useful because the ease of working with pictures on Iphoto.

2. We brought a tent

-Every inch of space in the van counts on a trip like this and we ended up carting our tent to Panama and back and never opening it. Unless you know for sure you are going to do overnight hikes - which not a lot of roadtrippers do - a tent is not necessary. Cheap hotels are a plentiful everywhere.
