Camper Vans for Rent in British Columbia

If you are interested in roadtrippin through the backroads of BC, the Yukon and Alaska, but don't own a camper van, then Travel BC Van Rentals & Sales may be the place for you.

Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, the company has a fleet of 15 (give or take) older model vans for rent, each equipped with all the necessary camping equipment including dishes, a stove, ice box and bedding. Some vans also have built-in fridges and sinks.

And unlike conventional rental car companies, Travel BC encourages its customers to drive the vans on back roads to far flung places, like the Arctic Circle via the notoriously rugged Dempster Highway.

According to company spokesperson Michelle Humbel, the family run business has been renting vans for 20 years. They started out with "van conversions" and a few motorhomes, but eventually shifted to an almost all econo-van and travel van fleet.

Their customers tend to people in the 20 to 40 age range who are looking to travel relatively cheaply and who want to get off the beaten path. They are a particularly popular option with European roadtrippers, especially people from Switzerland and Germany.

Humbel says that their focus on camper vans “has been particularly advantageous in the last few years with rising fuel costs”, and adds that the smaller vehicles are also more suited to driving on rough back roads and for “boondocking”, as they do not require water or sewer hook-ups.

For travelers who are interested in extended road-trips, the company offers a “purchase and buy-back” program, where a van can be bought from the company and then sold back to it at the end of the trip at a guaranteed price.

Their most hard-core “buy-back” guest was on the road for nearly a year and racked up over 30,000 kilometers, before selling the vehicle back to Travel BC.
