Little Miss Sunshine Debuted Three Years Ago Tonight

Speaking of the Sundance Film Festival in Utah - which I did in my article a few days ago about interior design firm Barclay Butera's Airstream trailer - I finally got around to watching roadtrippin favourite, Little Miss Sunshine.

The movie premiered at the indie festival three years ago tonight, earning standing ovations from the crowd. It then went on to be nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The storyline follows a family of spare parts that road trips in a VW Bus from Albquerque, New Mexico to Redondo Beach, California  continue reading... »

Rolling Stone Magazine's 25 Best Road Trip Tunes

Rolling Stone magazine published its list of the "25 Best Road Trip Songs Ever" in May 2007.

The collection is a bit heavy on classic rock for my tastes, and it neglects some obvious road trip anthems like the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Roadtrippin" and Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again'.

Barlcay Butera's Airstream To Host Celebrities at Sundance

I came across this Airstream nugget when I was looking for reviews of Little Miss Sunshine, the road trip movie that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival three years ago this week.

Interior designer to the stars Barclay Butera Inc. towed its swanky Airstream trailer to Park City, Utah for that same 2006 edition of the festival.

Timeless Book "Who Needs a Road?" Inspires Roadtrippers

One of the most ambitious overland journeys currently underway is The World By Road Expedition.

Americans Steve Shoppman and Steve Bouey, and a small and evolving crew of global wanderers they have picked up along the way, are aiming to drive through more than 80 countries in six continents in less than two years time.

Since starting the trip in Spring 2007, the TWBR team has taken their two 4x4 Toyota trucks into 50 countries in Asia, Europe Africa and South America, as well as Australia.

They are currently in Cali, Colombia arranging to have the trucks shipped around the Darien Gap and into Panama.  continue reading... »

A Tribute to the "Viva Westfalia" Blog

The information superhighway is littered with the carnage of abandoned blogs.

One cyber narrative that flamed brightly for a year and a half before going silent is "Viva Westfalia", whose tag line is: "Celebrating the magic that is an aircooled Volkswagen camper".

Between December 2005 and June 2007, the anonymous and photo-less blogger uploaded 29 tight and cool posts, each on VW buses, and each with an eye catching photo or video. They cover some of the same stories we've written about here at  continue reading... »
