Green Road Trips Raise Awareness About the Environment

One road trip across North America to raise awareness about the environment is just getting started, while another green minded road trip has just wrapped up.

Canadians Tyson Jerry and Cloe Whittaker departed from Victoria, British Columbia on a four month environmentally friendly road trip across North America, which they are calling "Driven to Sustain".

They are riding in a Mitsubishi Delica diesel van that has been converted to run on Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO). Their goal is to try and break the current world record for "Longest Journey by Car on Alternative Fuel" which currently stands at 38,137 kilometres and they have already invested over $40,000 of their own funds to see it through.  continue reading... »

Family of Four Bicycling from Alaska to Argentina

The most eco-friendly way to road trip is...on a bike.

And bicycles are the transportation of choice for the Vogel family from Boise, Idaho who intend to spend the next two and half years cycling from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina.

Pamela Anderson's "Lovestream" Airstream Trailer for Sale

Pamela Anderson's "Lovestream" Airstream trailer is for sale.

According to Kruse International's website, the trailer will be one of about 5,000 collectible vehicles that can be purchased at its 38th edition of the “World’s Largest Collector Car Auction and Show".

The auction will be held live in Auburn, Indiana from August 28 - September 2, 2008. Online bids will also apparently be accepted.

In 2006, British Columbia native Anderson hired celebrity car customizing company Unique Autosports to personalize the trailer.

The Long Island based company installed a white shag rug, a disco ball, mirrors on the ceiling, a vibrating bed and the Playboy logo on the couch.  continue reading... »

In Search of Captain Zero: A Surfer's Road Trip Beyond the End of the Road

Allan Weisbecker's 2001 memoir, In Search of Captain Zero: A Surfer’s Road Trip Beyond the End of the Road, describes his trip through Mexico and Central America in a camper truck scouting for a lost friend and the perfect wave.

The Chicago Tribune described the book as, “A dangerous tale, filled with humor, insight, lawlessness, heartbreak, and some wicked cool waves”.

The book has been co-optioned as a movie to none other than actor Sean Penn, although the making of the film has apparently hit a snafu.  continue reading... »

National Lampoon's "Vacation" Turns 25

Twenty-five years ago today, National Lampoon's Vacation premiered in theatres.

It is arguably the funniest road trip flick ever made.

Starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo and a young Anthony Michael Hall, the movie documents the Griswald family's comedic cross-country drive from Chicago to the Walley World theme park.

The star studded supporting cast included funny-men John Candy and Eugene Levy, and supermodel Christie Brinkley.

The movie's box-office success spurred four sequels: European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989) Las Vegas Vacation (1997), and Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure (2003).
